Privacy, with clear boundaries.

1. Information you provide

When you create and use an Afar account, you may provide:

• Your email address for account authentication and communication.
• Your display name.
• Your date of birth to confirm adult eligibility.
• Your timezone so time-based experiences work appropriately.
• Your answers and other content within the Relationship Blueprint and Daily Discovery.
• Information you choose to provide when contacting support or making a safety report.

Your raw date of birth is used for age assurance and is protected. Private profile information is not shared with your partner.

2. How Afar uses information

Afar uses information to authenticate accounts, provide the app’s connection and discovery experiences, maintain private and shared boundaries, respond to support requests, protect users, and preserve the integrity of the service.

Afar uses Supabase for authentication and backend infrastructure. Afar does not currently use private relationship data for AI generation.

3. Partner connections

In the launch version, each user can have one active partner relationship at a time. A connection is created through mutual pairing. The app uses relationship-level records to support the shared experience between the two connected accounts.

Either person may end the connection. Ended relationships disappear from the normal app view.

4. Private and shared answers

Relationship Blueprint answers may be private or shared, depending on the answer and the choice available in the app. Private answers are not shown to your partner.

Daily Discovery answers remain hidden from your partner until the applicable reveal conditions are met. When a discovery requires both people to answer, one partner’s answer is not revealed before both have responded.

5. Revealed memories and retention

Revealed or shared Daily Discovery history may be retained on Afar’s servers. For a focused experience, the normal app displays only the 20 most recent revealed memories. This display limit does not necessarily mean older records have been deleted.

When a relationship ends, it is removed from normal app view. Some relationship-level records may be retained or stamped where needed to maintain integrity and safety.

6. Safety reports

When ending a relationship, a user may indicate that their partner made them uncomfortable. Afar may retain this as a private safety report to support safety and service integrity. A private safety report is not shown to the former partner.

7. Account deletion

Deleting an account deletes the user’s own profile and content and safely ends any active relationship. Some relationship-level records and private safety reports may be retained or stamped for integrity or safety purposes. Because relationship records involve two people, deleting one account does not always require deleting every integrity record associated with the former relationship.

8. Your choices

You control whether certain Relationship Blueprint answers are private or shared, whether to answer Daily Discovery prompts, and whether to remain in an active partner connection. You can end a connection at any time and may delete your account through the options made available in Afar.

Afar does not currently provide a user data export tool.

9. Security and privacy

Afar is designed around separation between private profile data, private answers, and content that has been revealed or shared. No online service can promise absolute security, but we work to limit access and use information only for the purposes described here.
